We are alive

Yes I know it has been forever since I posted last. We have been super busy with school, work, callings, family etc. But spring break is here!!! I will be spending most of it doing homework but it's ok because I LOVE school! I am LOVING my classes. 2 classes that I absolutely love going to are Parent and Child Relationships and Theories of Human Development. My teachers are fabulous so I think that helps a lot. This last week in my Parent and Child Relationship class two ladies from Primary Childrens came to talk to us about "How Families Can Help Prevent Eating Disorders." Here are some outragouse stats that I never knew. First, 42% of 1st-3rd grade girls want to be skinnier; 81% of 10 year old girls are afraid of being overweight; and 46% of 9-11 year olds said they are "sometimes" or "very often" are on diets. I was shocked!! And then these ladies told us a story of a 7 year old girl who had full blown severe anorexia. She started when she was 5 and they asked her why she became anorexic and this is what she said. Every morning she would watch her mom look at herself in the mirror and say "I am fat and ugly." So this little girl thought, well I am my mothers daughter so I must be fat and ugly too! I almost started crying when I heard that. I personally believe a lot of the way we think of ourselves has to do with media and the things we watch and read. But we also need to remember that kids are always watching us and they want to be like their parents. It is a very interesting class, we usually talk about good things lol not so much these sad situations, but it was definitly an eye opener for me.

So besides doing homework over the break I am going to spend some time taking care of the hubby. Tomorrow (Monday) he is going in for sinus surgery so he will be at the hospital for most of the day. He is a little nervous but we know things will be ok. Hopefully it will help him. He has had sinus issues for a long time and is always in pain so we are keeping our fingers crossed that it will make it better for him.

Wow. I don't know what to say I can see why you started to cry during your class. That is a scary thought seeing how I have a 7 year old and she does not like the way she looks. I was wondering where you were at work today hopefully Ryans surgery goes good and he will not be in anymore pain and you can come back to our fun filled place we call work LOL.
